Booooo! Let me fill your cabin with lava!
[He says, completely not meaning it.]
Wow, you actually could just take me to the enclosure now. You gonna go mad with power, babe?

Yeah, we really do not want that.
What did he say to you, when you asked to come back?
[A pause, then, just to double down:]
Babe?

Okay.
[Rhys is so mad. Still at Betelgeuse, but just as much at the Admiral. Turns out the Barge is still a trap.]
Okay, you can do this. Most of what's tough about being a warden is just being here, so if you like that, you've already got most people beaten. From what I've seen temp wardens mostly just ignore you, and being a permanent warden is--
I guess it kind of depends on the person you get assigned to, but if you need help, I'll help you.

Yeah. Really.

I know-- Hange is exhausted. Bill too, I think. I think the only reason I'm not is because I'm selfish enough to blow people off when I'm burned out. So yeah, I can help.

[Well that's--
Just, super new. Rhys was pretty sure just offering was going to get him a laundry list of questions about what to do.
When he answers, his voice is warm.]
Yeah. And maybe it's best to see if you actually need the help before you go looking for it. I told you you were on the way to graduating.

Yeah. It was a big, weird, sudden change.
Do you think it was just turning human that let you graduate? It feels kind of unfair.

It was your graduation. Who else am I supposed to ask?
[But the wind comment was a reminder:]
Get the admiral to give you a fully stocked kitchen, and get your list. I'll find a cookbook, and let's do some being alive together.

I'll see you in half an hour, okay?
[In the mean time, he's going to go look for dramatic ways to cook halloumi.]

[Rhys arrives when he said he would, knocks, then tests the door handle, just to see if Betelgeuse has developed a concept of home security. He has a chunky, hard back recipe book covered in ridiculously overproduced food photography tucked under his arm.]

[Don't mind if he does! Rhys enters, and glances around, spotting Betelguse in the kitchen quickly.]
Hey. You look a little better.
[Rhys approaches, sets his cookbook on the counter, and leans in for a kiss on the cheek.]
Annnnd, now that I think about it, we should probably also ask for a fire alarm, huh?

[Rhys laughs, taking the hug as an opportunity to smooth a hand up the back of Betelgeuse's neck, through his hair, over his cheek-- He's just soft all over now.]
Nice work. I'm pretty sure that's like-- step one in most of these recipes.
[Rhys takes a half step back, and reaches down to flick open the cookbook on the counter.]
I mean-- we might need to like, decide what we're putting on there, but no harm in getting it all hot first, right?

You've been human for three weeks and you only just started thinking about what sex would be like? Jeeze, it must have been bad out there.
[Rhys flicks through a few pages of the cook book, looking for a burger recipe, when something occurs to him, and he glances up at Betelgeuse.]
Wait, is your tongue different now? Is your dick different?
[Admittedly, it's not like his dick was quite as alien as the curving forked tongue, but it was still pretty groady and undead.]
