Okay, that earns you a little shudder, and Rhys turning so that he can point meaningfully at Betelgeuse as he walks backwards towards the stairwell, "Okay, but remember what I said: No permanent damage. This is like, fifty percent reward, fifty percent trust exercise."
He is however, going to take a pretty major gulp of that vodka. Just to amp up his own trust a little more.
"You know what I mean!" Rhys insists, still walking backwards as they approach the stairwell down to zero, "Nothing I have to death toll out of!"
He says this, right before one of his feet goes backwards over the top step, and Rhys has to suddenly flail both arms out to keep from plummeting backwards down a flight of stairs.
He is a hazard to himself and requires no assistance.
Rhys manages to grab the bannister, one handed, and shoot Betelgeuse a glare, before turning primly to descend the stairs. Face forward. No more plummeting.
"I like your act better when the foreshadowing isn't quite so heavy. And don't call me kid."
At the bottom of the stairs, the entrance to zero, and the hatch. Is this an awful decision? Or is it just kind of a weird kinky game with extremely unclear boundaries?
He has a brief, clear memory of Betelgeuse, wet eyed and visibly distressed as Rhys rinsed off the other man's hair, and he reaches down to unlock the hatch.
It's a treat. A very stupid treat that he's giving to a gross, horrible person who he made cry.
"Okay, let's do this."
And with that, he carefully hauls open the hatch, revealing a set of concrete stairs leading to the room below.
"But you ARE kind of a kid to me." He explains, visibly annoyed when Rhys doesn't break his neck on the landing. "I mean, you figure age-wise? I'm like. A billion times older than you."
He crosses the threshold into Zero; no teleportation powers on now. BJ looks to Rhys with an intrigued grin and heads down into the darkness first.
Where he greets the dark, foreboding room with an evil chuckle.
"You can't call people kid when you literally never act like a grown up." Rhys points out. Which is not exactly a request that Betelgeuse do that.
He sets off after the larger man, down the stairs, following the sound of that chuckle.
"And-- There should be like, some big cardboard boxes of like, magic 8 balls and rubix cubes down there as well? Just ignore those. That's just some stuff we needed storage space for."
This is probably not a good idea to learn that when BJ is happy and in possession of his light-and-sound powers, his eyes glow in the dark, right? Like malevolent little half-circles. He's raking a hand over the shackles against the wall, intrigued.
"Huh? What, sorry, I wasn't listening. Hey, c'mere and check these out!"
"I'm coming." Rhys says, to the glowing eyes and malevolent cackle, "But I'm also putting a timer on, so just-- thirty minutes, remember?"
He lifts his arm as he says this, opening a glowing interface for timekeeping, pale blue light completely unlike Betelgeuse's eerie glows, as he approaches the wall and shackles.
"I told you you'd like it."
He does point out, a little smug despite everything.
He seizes Rhys by the glowing cybernetic arm, dragging him over to lock him up against the wall in such a short amount of time, it speaks to a worrying amount of experience.
Says Rhys, voice quick and suddenly high pitched, like a man who definitely suggested this on a whim to get his own way without really thinking about how he'd feel being chained to a wall in a dark room,
"Should we have a safeword for this or something?"
"Sure, if it'll make you feel safer. Knock yourself out, kid." He turns back around, starting to get more of a feel for the room itself and tuning Rhys out. He goes to one of the boxes to root around.
"Shit, if only we could start a fire going in here.."
He turns back around, holding what can only be described as a heavy-duty set of pliers, that he's unsuccessfully trying to heat up with his light-based powers, turning it red.
"This doesn't feel right." He whines, dropping the instrument of torture entirely.
"Like, normally I'd be all yeah! Torture! Maim you up a bit for being stupid enough to let a literal demon pull you into a place where no one would find you and chain you to a wall. And now I'm looking at your face and you're so SCARED and don't get me wrong, it's hilarious, but I don't...want to make you scared of me."
He drops to the ground, the sadness glow back, to sit in front of Rhys with his head in his hands.
Rhys tries to reach for Betelgeuse's hair, but the chain on his other wrist keeps him too high to make contact.
"I'm not scared of you." He says, softly, "You keep me-- kind of off balance? But I came down here because I trust you not to fuck me up. Because we're friends and we-- y'know, we care about each other."
