Rose yelps and grabs him around the waist, spinning him up and around like
he weighs nothing.
"Just now! I - I didn't think it was going to happen, but I was talking to
Ford, and I - I think I was just scared to let it happen? And now I...I'm
not not scared, but I need to try."
Rose sets him down, gently, and puts her hands to his shoulders.
"I've got to go home. My son, the other Gems...I know it didn't go well
when we last talked, but I wasn't ready to listen to them. Not really.
And I love them. If they'll give me another chance, I want to take it."
But BJ's come a shockingly long way since he was first here and had to say goodbye for the first time. So, remarkably, he looks sadder but doesn't flip out into an angry demon mode.
"You're a good mom, Rosie. Your son's a lucky kid."
"...I don't know what mind of mom I am yet," she admits. "But I want to
be good. I'm going to do everything I can."
She cups his face in her hands, kisses his forehead.
"And when you're done here, you know you have a home with me, right? If
you ever need it, or want it. You're one of the most special people I've
ever known."
"You're right," she says, startled. "I'll ask. There has to be someone on
board who can make that happen, right? Or the Admiral. I bet it doesn't
matter to him where he sends people home to."
"Home." He repeats back, amazed. "I could have a home with you? Rosie, you're going home! Holy shit, you graduated! I mean, I know that already but it feels so good to say!"
"It does! It feels amazing. And...I want you to feel free to do whatever you want with your future, Beetlejuice, but I'd be so happy to share it with you."

Wait, you're okay, right?
no subject
Yes! Yes, I'm fine.
...I'm right outside your cabin.
[Knock knock.]

[A quick shuffle around inside as the demon rolls off his weird couch and bolts to the door. He opens it to Rose Quartz, peering up at her]
More than fine. Hi.
no subject
"Hi."
She's almost vibrating with nerves, her hands laced together tightly.
"...I graduated."

Then Betelgeuse yelps in joy and rushes to hug her around the middle.
"Are you SHITTING me right now?! Congratulations! Holy shit, Rosie! When?! Just now? Fucking what, tell me everything!"
no subject
Rose yelps and grabs him around the waist, spinning him up and around like he weighs nothing.

No shit! This is amazing! So you're no longer dead and trapped, right? Who else knows? What're you gonna do first with your freedom?

Rose sets him down, gently, and puts her hands to his shoulders.
"I've got to go home. My son, the other Gems...I know it didn't go well when we last talked, but I wasn't ready to listen to them. Not really. And I love them. If they'll give me another chance, I want to take it."
She's tearing up.
"...I just wish I could take you with me."

"That would be so nice."
no subject
She smiles back, then hugs him again, more gently this time.
"It would be so nice. I could never have managed being here without you, Beetlejuice. Thank you for being my friend."
no subject
"Hey, so if you're not coming back, how can I find you again?"
no subject
"You're right," she says, startled. "I'll ask. There has to be someone on board who can make that happen, right? Or the Admiral. I bet it doesn't matter to him where he sends people home to."

"I'll come visit! Soon as I'm outta here."
no subject
"I'll be thinking of you," she promises, and kisses his cheek this time. She leaves the cool of her tears behind. "I miss you already."
no subject
"I miss you too! Go, get outta here, go hug your kid."
