[Rhys is so mad. Still at Betelgeuse, but just as much at the Admiral. Turns out the Barge is still a trap.]
Okay, you can do this. Most of what's tough about being a warden is just being here, so if you like that, you've already got most people beaten. From what I've seen temp wardens mostly just ignore you, and being a permanent warden is--
I guess it kind of depends on the person you get assigned to, but if you need help, I'll help you.
I know-- Hange is exhausted. Bill too, I think. I think the only reason I'm not is because I'm selfish enough to blow people off when I'm burned out. So yeah, I can help.
[And the old demon inmate might have just accepted the help and left it at that.
The new, human warden tilts his head to one side, frowning. They're burned out. He burned them out.
Shit. He never had a problem taking from others before. And while he did try to help Bill a few times, he feels terrible about himself. Better to leave the people who he hurt alone]
[Rhys arrives when he said he would, knocks, then tests the door handle, just to see if Betelgeuse has developed a concept of home security. He has a chunky, hard back recipe book covered in ridiculously overproduced food photography tucked under his arm.]
[BJ turns around at Rhys' entrance and gives him a really, really tight hug back, physically picking him up off the ground before setting him down very quickly. Whoa - was he always that heavy? Must have been]
Hi, Stringbean! Also I figured out how the stove works!

Re: Voice
The lava might set the ship on fire, but I just want to look at it.

Re: Voice
...holy shit.
Holy shit that's it. I'm being a responsible adult.
Fuck me I might be getting this!
Re: Voice
[He says, completely not meaning it.]
Wow, you actually could just take me to the enclosure now. You gonna go mad with power, babe?
Re: Voice
B, I am a little scared about pissing off the Big Guy. I kinda ducked and ran and if I start going a little nuts, he could kick me off.
Re: Voice
What did he say to you, when you asked to come back?
[A pause, then, just to double down:]
Babe?
Re: Voice
I asked him if I could come back and be an inmate again and he said no, I was graduated already. Congratulations, yadda yadda.
And if I got back in as a warden to try and demote myself, he wouldn't let me on at all.

Maybe this is something I gotta do on my own.
Re: Voice
Just, super new. Rhys was pretty sure just offering was going to get him a laundry list of questions about what to do.
When he answers, his voice is warm.]
Yeah. And maybe it's best to see if you actually need the help before you go looking for it. I told you you were on the way to graduating.
Re: Voice
It doesn't feel real. And when it does, it's terrifying.
Re: Voice
Do you think it was just turning human that let you graduate? It feels kind of unfair.
Re: Voice
Re: Voice
[But the wind comment was a reminder:]
Get the admiral to give you a fully stocked kitchen, and get your list. I'll find a cookbook, and let's do some being alive together.
Re: Voice
Re: Voice
[In the mean time, he's going to go look for dramatic ways to cook halloumi.]
Re: Voice
BJ stands in the middle of it all, frowning, his arms crossed as he stares perplexed at the stove.]

Re: S p a m
Betelgeuse, who has set more fires in his life than most, fires up the stove to watch the flames]
Re: S p a m
Hey. You look a little better.
[Rhys approaches, sets his cookbook on the counter, and leans in for a kiss on the cheek.]
Annnnd, now that I think about it, we should probably also ask for a fire alarm, huh?
