She considers suggesting that very thing, and then has a vision of a future where Betelgeuse is always trying to grab her and tickle her. Ugh, he has enough boundary problems already. No.
"Weird! You should consider getting some books on basic health and such in the library."
"Then look for videos or something, I'm sure things like that exist." Hange shrugs. "Total dependency on others isn't cute. It'd be a way for you to take charge of learning new things and taking care of yourself."
"You're really on the whole 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' learning curve, aren't you?" He asks mildly, pulling his shirt down further, protective.
"Well, Betelgeuse..." Hange shrugs. "Do you want to depend on what's convenient for other people and what they can do for you at any given moment? I'm not saying you can't get help, and given your track record you should probably check around before you assume something is normal and make a big thing out of it, but... you're your own person. And people will probably be more inclined to help you if you've made some sensible efforts to help yourself first."
Hange shrugs loosely. She's not here to litigate the eating-garbage debate. That's not the life she wants for Betelgeuse, but... it's his life, anyway.
"You know how to get food for yourself here, right?"
"I know... but you managing food when you're off the barge is hopefully in the far future, and you getting fed here is in the now."
Hange lets out a sigh.
"And my offer that you accompany me wherever I end up stands. I would need you to manage yourself a bit more - I need you to be my equal partner, not my responsibility. But if it comes to it I'm willing to help you."

"D'you wanna be friends?"
no subject
"I always want more friends." BJ admits.

Hange prods him in the side playfully.
"Well, if you got on, you should try and keep up a relationship with him."
no subject
"Why do you do that?"
no subject
She prods at him again, lightly. Just for fun!

"It feels...different!"
no subject
Who knows how and when and where Betelgeuse gets hurt. It bears checking.
no subject
It's ticklish. He's never felt ticklish in his life.

She props her elbow on Betelgeuse's shoulder, relaxed.

"Yeah. Kid's gonna be a billionaire someday. Meanwhile I'm just happy when I can find dumpster food with not TOO much crap on it."

"...I mean, the cafeteria. But there wasn't any cafeterias where I ended up."

"Equal partners sounds amazing." BJ murmurs into his hands.
no subject
"When it works out - it is amazing."
Most of her equal partners have died. Hange is one of the few left from her peer group. It is what it is.

"Maybe I should ask for my dead people powers before I come to your world. Make me less breakable. Could be an asset, IDK."
