"Yeah, she's great. Was great. She was thirty feet long and had two heads. I loved that little monster."
BJ, a thirty-foot-long snake is not little.
"She's working on it. Didn't like her size for some reason, so if she comes back, she's going to be pocket-sized. Poor kid; tries to do what instinct and nature tell her and gets killed and resurrected completely powerless."
"Well, at least being smaller means she'll be able to explore?" She's
trying to focus on the positive, where she can find it. "I'd have hated to
have my lion cooped up in my room for all the time I've been here."
"I.....I don't think so," she says haltingly. "And I've never tried it on
a human, I...I'm not sure what would happen. Lion didn't exactly come back
exactly the same as he was before."
"...not like you would see in a movie," Rose hedges. "But I was using a
power I was used to using on inorganics, and he's lived for much longer
than a regular lion, so..."
She can't in good conscience say she didn't make a zombie lion.
His smile fades into something more nervous and insect-like.
"Well. I want to. But I have a feeling the Big Guy's gonna try to get rid of me if I do that. Hange is going to murder me if I don't graduate. So I- I wanna go home with somebody."
"Me too! I think...I think maybe I was wrong to think about going home.
Everyone's got their own lives, now. I can't just walk back in like nothing
happened."

He can relate.

"I think that's what happens to a lot of us," Rose suggests softly. "She just got missed out for a little while, I guess."

no subject
"Did I know that?"
no subject
Rose shakes her head.
"I travelled with a pride in the desert, for a while," she says. "When one of them died, I...I brought him back."
That's a thing she does, y'know, reviving the dead and giving them magical powers while turning them immortal.

He stops walking, gaping at her.
"Can you do that here?"
no subject
"I.....I don't think so," she says haltingly. "And I've never tried it on a human, I...I'm not sure what would happen. Lion didn't exactly come back exactly the same as he was before."

Try to sound less hopeful there, BJ.

"Man, Rosie. You're amazing."
no subject
She blushes, then looks away, sadly.
"Not amazing enough."
no subject
"You've got us now."
no subject
"I do, don't I?"
Rose looks back to him, and smiles.
"I just need to move on. Maybe - maybe it's better if I don't go back."
She's worried about Steven, but he seemed...ambivalent about having her home, at best.
no subject
"Or maybe you get so good that you show up and make 'em all jealous with your glow-up!"
no subject
She already did that, is the problem; she just did it by ceasing to exist and relinquishing her Gem to Steven.
"Are you ever going to go back home, Beetlejuice? Or - to somewhere you used to be?"
no subject
no subject
"Does that mean you're staying here?"
She likes him. Other people like him too, right?
no subject
"Well. I want to. But I have a feeling the Big Guy's gonna try to get rid of me if I do that. Hange is going to murder me if I don't graduate. So I- I wanna go home with somebody."
no subject
"Oh -"
Someone he knows from the Barge. Someone who's seen so much of him, and likes him all the same?
"That...that sounds really nice."
no subject
"Yeah. Yeah, you know, I mean. I wanna be with my friends. People who really get me."
no subject
"Me too! I think...I think maybe I was wrong to think about going home. Everyone's got their own lives, now. I can't just walk back in like nothing happened."

He hums under his breath.
"Hey Rosie. You wanna find a friend to latch onto like a diseased koala and go to their world? After we're alive again, I mean."
no subject
She looks startled, but only for a moment, and then giggles.
"Maybe not like that. But it's a good idea."
no subject
He pauses on his way up the stairs to turn and look at Rose.
"Hey - you laughed. Starting to feel like your old self again?"
